You're done!

While you may need to make further changes, you can now provide the following to your MapRun Local Administrator (LA) for checking and uploading:

  • Your Purple Pen .ppen file (so they can add any extra logos, QR codes, etc.)
  • Your base map (in .pdf, .ocd or .omap/.xmap format). Without this they will be unable to open your Purple Pen file
  • Your KML files for each course. Don't worry if they choose to rename them as this may be necessary before uploading to MapRun
  • (optionally)Your PDF maps. With the Purple Pen file and base map they can create these themselves
  • Any instructions on the parking or start location. Don't expect them (or participants) to be familar with the local area, so they may want to add pertinent information to the event page on MapRun.uk
You may also want to discuss how long to make the courses available for or plan to update the maps as necessary. By default, courses uploaded to MapRun are available for just 12 months. This is to avoid load on the MapRun servers. If your courses are to be used only as part of a league, they can be left to expire, but you may want to extend the expiry date for public use. If your courses are in an area with active development, you may need to refresh your maps with updated features and out-of-bounds areas. If your base map is from OpenOrienteeringMap, you can use its unique code (at the end of its filename) to retrieve the original mapped area and output it with the latest map data. You can update your maps for printing whenever you want, but the KML courses uploaded to MapRun cannot easily be altered, so if controls are no longer accessible you may want to delete the course entirely.
