What course types are there?
Courses can be:
- Line (all controls in order. Cannot miss any)
- Scatter (either all controls or a specified minimum number in any order)
- Score (as many controls as you can get within time limit, with a penalty for being late back)
In all but the latest versions of MapRun, the course type is determined by codes on end of the course name (e.g. My Course PXAS ScoreN60 is a score course with the ScoreN scoring scheme). Your local administrator will generally check these for you, but how you plan your course will be based on its type and the distance people may run within any relevant time-limits. The course codes are:
- PXAC = Line
- PXAS = Scatter/Score
What score types are there?
If you must visit a minimum number of controls with no time limit, specify the minimum after PXAS (e.g. PXAS14). This is generally only used with a scatter course, not a score course. For a score course, pick scoring scheme and time limit. Add ScoreTxx onto your filename where T = Type and xx = time limit in minutes. Different types have different methods for scoring control (points may be constant or depend on control number) as well as altering the penalty if late back. Common types are:
- ScoreV: 20 points per control. 10 points lost for each minute (or part-minute) late back
- ScoreN: Points are control number rounded up to nearest multiple of 10 (so 19 = 20 points, 20 = 20 points, 21 = 30 points). 10 points lost for each minute (or part-minute) late back
- ScoreQ: Points are control number rounded down to nearest multiple of 10 (so 19 = 10 points, 20 = 20 points, 21 = 20 points). 30 points lost for each minute (or part-minute) late back (this is a big penalty)
- ScoreW: Like ScoreQ above, but supports special high-scoring controls (numbers over 900) that score 100 points that will not punch in the first or last 10 mins of the event duration
You may also define your own scoring scheme with the ScoreP type, but this has been found to be unreliable with some versions of the app.
