What is MapRun?
- A framework to allow courses to be set up that use GPS to determine that you have visited a control, thus meaning that physical controls do not need to be laid out
- Mobile phone apps (Android and Apple) can participate directly, by downloading the course and then using the phone's inbuilt GPS.
The app does NOT need to use any data when you are running the course. You can download the course in advance (e.g. on WiFi at home)
- Garmin watch owners with the MapRunG Garmin Connect IQ app installed can use Garmin Connect on their phone in conjunction with the MapRun app to send the course to their watch.
They can then run without their phone
- If you do not have a compatible Garmin watch or a working mobile phone app, but can somehow generate a GPS trace as a GPX file,
you can upload this offline on the GPS Track Upload section of the MapRun website
- All participants who upload results will count, irrespective of when they run the courses
- Has a route analysis system similar to RouteGadget
- Authored by Peter Effeney from Australia
- Access to manage courses is delegated to Local Administrators (LAs) who have access to various sub-folders which are organised roughly by county (in the UK)
