North Cambridge (King's Hedges) 2023
West Anglian Orienteering Club (WAOC) welcomes you to our North Cambridge (King's Hedges) 2023 MapRun event. There are 4 courses available.
Details
Planned by Peter Molloy, member of the GB team and ex-CUOC student, on a proper 1:4000 orienteering map.
Undoubtedly one of the trickiest sprint areas in Cambridge, so you can expect interesting route-choices, constant changes in direction and fun terrain. Matthias Kyburz would struggle to go sub 4:00s around here... There are three urban-style courses, long, short and very short, with optimal distances of around 5.6, 3.7 and 2.2km respectively. This is on the short side for urban and the long side for sprint, but the technical nature of the courses means that you will necessarily have to slow down at some points! These courses are only suitable for over 16s.
There is also a junior-friendly course that does not cross any roads. This is suitable for over 12s.
You must NOT go through any gates which are not marked as open on the map; some flats include gated walkways at the bottom of stairwells which may be either open or closed.
The map and courses were altered slightly in March 2024 to take building works into account (specifically, the old finish location was no longer accessible).
Parking
Park on the the road near The Ship. The public car park is currently closed.
