Courses
Short 4.0k 40m climb
Medium 5.2k 70m climb (Both straight line routes, actual distance will be further).
Map 1:10000 OOmap.co.uk/ streetmap.
Control descriptions Mostly lampposts or path junctions and Included on map.
Housing estate with many interconnecting footpaths and grassy areas. Be aware of traffic but no major road crossings in the area. May be soft/muddy in places. Headtorch strongly recommended if running after dark.
The area is on the edge of the chilterns and mostly based around a large reentrant, so climb can be significant in places.
I have tried as far as possible to make it clear where paths continue and where they do not join up, but let me know of any issues. A word of caution, there is no access from Orchard Grove to the path to the NW (as mapped).
Safety
Competitors under 16 should be accompanied by an adult. If running alone let someone else know of your plans. Consider carrying a mobile phone even if using a watch for navigation. Take care when crossing any road. Nearest A & E is the Royal Berkshire Hospital, Craven Road, Reading RG1 5AN.
Finally note that this is a solo activity and not covered by British Orienteering Event Insurance. All competitors take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety.
