Planners Notes
This is a mixed area. Part modern cul de sac housing with lots of pedestrian paths, and some areas of parkland.
It is bounded to the north by the busy A4 road and to the south by the railway. There is no need to cross either of these routes.
I have marked a couple of out of bounds area in the park near the start, as these are impassable. Please cross the rivers at the marked bridges. Not all woodland and hedges are show in the parkland.
Car speeds tend to be low on the minor roads, but may be higher on the wider roads. Please take care when crossing.
As of June 2022, the parkland is very dry, but some of the paths can become muddy after heavy rain.
Safety
Competitors under 16 should be accompanied by an adult. If running alone let someone else know of their plans and or travel to the area with a colleague as Covid-19 regulations allow. Consider carrying a mobile phone even if using a watch for navigation. Take care when crossing any road. Nearest A & E is the Royal Berkshire Hospital, Craven Road, Reading RG1 5AN.
Finally note that this is a solo activity and not covered by British Orienteering Event Insurance. All competitors take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety.
Parking
Access
Car – Free parking at the community centre (What3Words ///aims.buns.tables). Please note that the car park may be locked at dusk, but access to the park for pedestrians is still possible.
