North Gloucestershire Orienteering Club (NGOC) welcomes you to our Abbeydale, Abbeymead and Upton St Leonards MapRun event. There are 2 courses available.

Details

We have several courses that all overlap, covering the housing estates to the east of Gloucester. The area is mostly flat and paved - suitable for road shoes all year round. The "Upton St Leonards" course ventures across the motorway and includes fields. You may prefer trail shoes for more grip if it has been wet.
Beware the roads can be very busy and it is your own responsibility to cross safely. The motorway should only be crossed at the mapped over/under bridges.

Parking

Free parking is available at Abbeydale Sports and Community Centre. If full, Morrison's *customer* car park is close by.

Course: Upton St Leonards 2021

60 minute score

This is a Score course which means you should get as many controls as you can within 60 minutes.

There are 30 controls in total. You do not need to get them all and you can visit them in any order.

Controls score different numbers of points:
  • Controls numbered 1 to 10 score 10 points
  • Controls numbered 11 to 20 score 20 points
  • Controls numbered 21 to 30 score 30 points
For each minute or part-minute you are late back, you will lose 10 points. The highest number of points wins. The time you take is used as tie-break.

This is a Start Anywhere course which means you do not need to start/finish at the triangle. You can pick the most convenient control and start there. Remember you need to return to the same control that you started at in order to finish. The start/finish control on the map becomes a valid, scoring control with number 31 so bear in mind the number of points it will score as shown above.
